shopping across the border

growing up in an archipelago, i never had an experience of traveling across the border until i came here to singapore. i found it tedious but at the same exciting as it gives me an opportunity to be out of singapore. tedious because it means going through two immigrations. from the singapore side, it has never been a hassle. but once you cross over, that is where the difficulty...

but in the interest of maximizing a one day public holiday, i decided to say yes to my friend, melissa's invitation to cross the border and visit johor bahru. not really a very nice and clean and cool place to go, but what the heck, it is the nearest one across singapore.

so off we went last may day (1 may) and did non stop shopping and going around this one big mall nearest to the border. the immigration check was so tiring, no aircon, so hot and so many people like us, wanting to get away even for only a day. it took us about one hour i think just to get through the immigration at the jb border.

so would i do it again, cross the border just for one day? perhaps not too soon...

images of langkawi

feels like going to the province
3246 was our chalet number
aircon was not working properly so we had to ask for a maintenance person to look at it
the room has a nice sofa bed, an old style ceiling fan and a veranda overlooking the mountain
but it was comfy
first evening, we watched a nice Indian romantice movie by Sharukh Khan
surprised to find that they have some Flip staff at the spa
the resort has nice jeepney style ride
nice old theme/classic style lobby

second day was spent swimming right after breakfast
cannot wait for the sun to be out in full blast
went to the city proper to shop around and spend hard earned Sing money

some very interesting images i captured in my digicam and in my mind
two couples walking along the shore, holding hands, seemingly on their honeymoon
old French couple, i think in their 70s, who are still so sweet, walking holding hands towards the sea
two sisters playing in the sand, oblivious to everything, even my digicam
observed how a Muslim family are enjoying their holiday, with the Mom wearing a tudung even near the sea
then there is the European woman, apparently pregnant, but still wearing a nice bikini, looking at her tummy before going down to swim

then the evening was spent listening to this Flip band, Musicmates, playing at the lobby lounge of the Berjaya Resort.
had fun requesting my favorite songs: Moon River and Pretty Woman

third day was spent going around the island taking pictures of myself and my friend Aggie

the plane ride back to Singapore was better, less bumpy and felt good to have been out, even for only 3 days....
